A Bag I Can Call My Own: New Bags From Property Of…

Do you have a bag that’s completely your own? You know the type – a bag that reflects you and your personality. It makes you feel right when its with you. Each stain or defect gives it character. If this bag could talk, it would tell a story that would make you proud.

I had a backpack like this. This slim, red, Northface backpack became a part of me. Rips along the seams from over use and stretched out elastic. Ten different pins around the front of the bag that showed my personality and, as they say in Office Space, my flair. Small enough to fit one notebook, and big enough to stuff an entire weekends worth of clothes. It even had a rain guard that could zip out from the bottom. I wore this bag for over six years every single day, and this bag was clearly property of Jordan.

We recently got a few bags that reflect that same feeling. In fact, this brand named itself “Property Of…” to reflect that the bag identifies the bag owner, not the designer. On each bag there’s a spot for you to write your name, and really make the bag your own. Property Of… bags are more than just something you carry your stuff in, they define you. Just like my red backpack had defined me. The bags grow with you and become a part of you and your personality. I like this. But could one of these bags really become that one bag you’ll love and carry with you for the rest of your life?

I decided to check out some of these bags. Could any of them become Property of Jordan? We’ll we don’t have any Property Of… backpacks, so it’s off to a slow start (I love backpacks, if you couldn’t tell) but hopefully these messengers, totes and duffels will match up.

Lex Work Tote

First up, the Property Of Lex Work Tote. The Lex is both a tote bag and a messenger because it comes with an optional shoulder strap. This bag was definitely well designed and planned out. I like the reinforced leather bottom of the tote. And wow there are a lot of organizational pockets. There’s an outside snap pocket, with a zipper pocket inside that. Additionally there are zipper pockets and open pockets on both sides of the interior main compartment. Not to mention the huge main compartment.  I like this bag. Its like an evolved tote bag. Definitely more than just a plain canvas tote bag. There are obviously cheaper tote bags out there, but the Lex Work Tote has style, utility, and is very practical. So far, it seems like Property Of… did a good job of creating a brand with personality. Although this bag is nice, it doesn’t scream Jordan. Is this the bag for you?

Next, I checked out the Tommy Trip. Like the name implies, this bag is made for going on a trip. Because of this, its larger than the tote, made for packing clothes for a vacation or an adventure. Although this bag is larger than the Work Tote, its not too large or bulky for travel. Its a great sized duffel bag with a very unique flair. This bag also has tons of organizational pockets, both inside and out, and includes an optional shoulder strap. The Tommy Trip seems like a very upscale duffel bag. Perfect if that’s what you’re looking for. Now that I think about it, I could use some new luggage, and this bag seems like its a great fit for me. So if when this bag runs out of stock, its probably because I claimed it. I don’t feel bad, you snooze you lose. Here are some images of the (soon to be renamed, Jordan Trip) Tommy Trip:

Lastly, I’m going to look at the Tommy Laptop Bag. I’m not sure that this one will be the bag for me because a) I was sold at the Tommy Trip and can’t get this bag out of my head and b) I just bought a laptop sleeve so I doubt I need a laptop bag. But these bags are all really cool, so it’s worth checking out. And this one lives up to the reputation. With a nice canvas exterior and a padded interior, your laptop will definitely be protected from the elements. It just a has a very durable feel, which is exactly what you want to protect your computer. It has a main compartment, a padded pocket for your 15″ laptop, and an exterior pocket for everything else. Also, like all the Property Of.. bags, it has a shoulder strap which adds versatility to this laptop bag. You could easily be instantly hooked to this bag, and if I hadn’t just got a case for my computer, I’d be instantly hooked.

Glancing over all the Property Of… bags we have, they all have a lot in common.  All three are well made and very useful bags. A step above the standard bags for sure. Nothing flashing or over the top about them. But made with high quality materials and with the highest attention to detail. These are bags that you can definitely grow to love. These bags look like they will be broken in with use, the way a baseball glove develops a personality after thousands of catches and ground balls. After many trips and daily commutes, the Property Of… bags will definitely become property of you.
